Why We Created Quill & Ink House

Do you remember the nights when you were younger and you just had to stay up far too late  saying,  “just one more chapter”? I know I did. I would always tell myself “just one more chapter, then I’ll go to sleep”. But we all know that was the biggest lie we ever told ourselves. I suppose for readers, that was the first lie we ever really told ourselves.

Finding a book back then to just fall in love with always seemed so easy. In my school I had an amazing librarian who would always shake her head and smile at me whenever I walked back in to return a book that I checked out the day before. She’d have a few book titles in mind for me to try out next.

Once I left there, I started working in a library, just as a volunteer, but I still worked there, and basically got my hands on every single book that I wanted. I can’t even begin to tell you how long my TBR list was back then. I’m not even sure if I ever finished it. There were just so many choices to pick from, and I no longer had anyone to filter it out for me.

That’s the problem, isn’t it? My old librarian had read every single book in the library before she would put them on the shelves for the students to check out. She had gotten to know my taste so well that she could just pick what I would love next, and tell me what I would hate, and I hate to admit but she was right.

We don’t have anyone to filter out books anymore. Just because a book is popular doesn’t mean that it’s something that everyone will like. Not to mention that the market is so flooded with so many different books, that it’s hard anymore for one book to stand out. Endless titles are listed online, ready to arrive at your doorstep within days. Bookstores are overflowing with shelves upon shelves of stories, so many that finding the right one can feel overwhelming unless you already know exactly what you are looking for.

I mean, I walked into a bookstore the other day to go in and smell the scent of fresh new books. We all know that bibliophiles love the scent of a brand new book. There's something almost intoxicating about it, because you know your next adventure is waiting somewhere inside those pages.

But the sheer number of books just threw me back. Online it’s a lot easier to filter through the books, but they still lack that personal sense of curation, and the search parameters are broad. I didn’t even know where to begin. I didn’t walk in with a plan and I was so overwhelmed. How do you even start? Clockwise? Fiction? Yes there are signs to help guide you in the right direction, but there isn’t much more than that at an actual bookstore, especially a bigger one.

In smaller bookstores, though, I’ve noticed how much easier it is to ask the person behind the counter for help. They know what’s on the shelves. They can guide you toward something you might actually love.

And that’s the difference.

That’s a person, just like my old librarian, not an algorithm with broad filters.

I became more aware of this problem when I decided to take up writing. It’s more of a hobby at this point. I did look into self-publishing. I don’t want to be famous for my works, I don’t want to be on the NY Times bestseller list, although that would be amazing. I just want my books out there for people to read. But I was concerned that it would just get drowned out by the overwhelming number of traditionally published and independent works.

That’s not even including the difficulties that they face with public perception. Independent books often get dismissed before they are ever really given a chance because they are assumed to be poorly edited, rushed, or artificially generated simply because  they exist outside of traditional publishing.

Yes, it is true that there are books out there like that. But not all books are like that. Not all of them are written by AI, or stolen plot lines. There are so many authors that put in the hard work and pay for professional editing and cover designs.

That’s what our goal is here at Quill & Ink House. To shine a light on books that deserve far more recognition than they receive, and help you cut through the noise and find a book that you will absolutely love. Hopefully, we will bring you your next favorite author, or book.

Every package we create is designed intentionally and with care. From the aesthetic of the author to the atmosphere of the story itself, every detail is chosen to make the experience feel immersive, personal, and connected to the world inside the book.

While we cannot guarantee a perfect match for the blind dates, we do hope that readers will have an elevated experience through our packaging and presentation. And for the authors behind those stories, we hope this helps you grow your readership, strengthen your community, and connect readers not only to your work, but to the voice behind it.

At our heart, Quill & Ink House exists to  illuminate the voice of self-published authors by bridging the gap between authors and readers. We strive to create an experience where readers can discover the excitement of a new book each month while helping authors build meaningful connections, grow their audience, and foster a lasting community around their work.

We hope that you will stay with us as we continue to grow.

We are building Quill & Ink House slowly, intentionally, and with great care.

A place where stories do more than just exist.

A place where they breathe.

We hope you'll grow alongside us.
